Understanding High School Codes

High School Codes are necessary for standardized test results, such as the ACT and SAT, to reach the proper schools and scholarship programs. High School Codes are also used for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in case you are thinking about getting help to finance your education. High School Codes are explained here below:

CEEB Codes

Correct entry of the CEEB Code is extremely important for the accurate and timely processing of the application you have submitted. A student must give not only the college name and address, but also its CEEB code, to ensure that his or her transcript is sent correctly.

The College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) code numbers are needed to register for any ACT or SAT program tests and to send your score reports to colleges and scholarship programs. CEEB code is also known as ATP code. A CEEB code is a standardized ID number that is assigned to a high school, college, or university by The College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). These CEEB codes are issued by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). These 4 to 6 digit codes are used in college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT. Many universities are using these CEEB codes on their applications.

You can choose these codes while you are completing the online registration or when you send your scores. If you need your CEEB code number for college and scholarship programs, test centers, or high schools, you may use the CEEB, ACT, SAT Code Search link at:

Federal School Code:

In case you are thinking about getting help to finance your education, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the very first application you are required to submit. While completing this Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you want that information sent to the schools that you would like to attend so you need to enter the Federal School Code for those schools on your application.

The FAFSA is basically a need analysis form to help the Department of Education determine your eligibility for financial aid and the amount. Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education ensures that all eligible students receive benefits from the federally funded financial assistance for education beyond high school. Federal Student Aid plays a very crucial role in supporting postsecondary education by providing monetary help to all eligible students and their families. They partner with postsecondary schools, financial institutions, and other institutions to help students by paying for college.

California State Student I.D. Number (SSID)

Many California colleges and universities ask for the (SSID) as part of their admissions process. Students attending a California K-12 public school are assigned a Statewide Student Identifier by CSIS (the California School Information Services). This unique 10-digit number enables the state Department of Education to comply with federal reporting requirements. As a student progresses from year to year and school to school, this number helps to monitor the progress without using any personally identifiable information like name.

This number is not used in the admissions process; it helps universities to support federal requirements for reporting students’ educational attainment over time.
Students can get their Statewide Student ID through their school counselor, registrar, or their school staff. It is also printed on high school transcripts.
